Fever

It was a rough weekend. It started last Thursday when she had a mild fever so I kept her out of preschool. She felt better at lunch time, so I brought her to daycare so that I could go in to work. After I picked her up that afternoon, she felt warm again. That night Baby Bear had a temperature of over 104. That was absolutely scary. We gave her ibuprofen and read online on ways to bring a fever down. We used a cold washcloth on her forehead and had her drink water. It wasn't easy since she was not a happy girl. If we didn't get her fever down after 30 minutes of trying these things, we were going to bring her to the ER. Her fever did start to go down and after an hour or so went down to 101. She had been so hot, that we were constantly cooling the washcloth down. She was so lethargic and refused water, she didn't want a bath. She was miserable. We could finally tell that her fever was down because she started to play again with some toys. By that time it was time for bed. She slept, but through the night I was constantly checking her and feeling her. In the middle of the night she felt hot and I tried to take her temperature in the dark, which didn't really work without waking her up. At any rate, I gave her more ibuprofen because she felt warm.

My poor little girl, she felt so bad.

The next morning she woke up and her fever was back up to 103. I call the doctor's office as soon as they opened and got an appointment for that morning. I emailed her preschool to let her know she would be out again and I emailed my office to let them know that I would likely be in late. We had a VIP coming in around 11am, so daddy and I figured out how I could get back in the office by that time. I later learned that the meeting time was pushed early and my boss told me I should stay home and that Baby Bear need me. I am so fortunate that she is so understanding and really appreciates me. I was especially grateful since I had been sick earlier in the week and took some time off. It was a bad time to be taking time off since I had a ton of work to do with a conference that I had been planning forth at was in a week.

So we went to the doctor and by then her fever went down to 101, so that was good. He took a look at her ears, listened a long time with the stethoscope to her heart and her breathing, looked in her mouth at her throat, and said he knew what was going on. Baby Bear had a severe sinus infection. She needed some antibiotics and he also prescribed some over the counter meds to controlled with her congestion. So we headed to the pharmacy downstairs and got what we needed. It is so nice that there is a pharmacy in the same building. We went home and it was such a struggle to get her to take any of her medicine. She still had a fever so she needed to take the Tylenol and the ibuprofen. Plus, she needed to take the antibiotics and the triamenic to help with her congestion. I staggered giveing them to her and somehow I forced down what she needed. She watched some tv then finally settled into a nap. She had such a hard time breathing during her sleep since she was so congested, it was so hard to see her struggle.

Her fever fluctuated the entire day so I had the washcloth close by to help bring her fevers down, tried to get her to drink water, and continued with that the next couple of days. I was just getting over being sick earlier in the week, so I was a little out of it and was starting to go crazy trying to figure out which med I had already given her and what she needed to take when. By the end of the weekend she seemed to be feeling better, her fevers were mild; fluctuating only up to 101 and she was eating a bit and drinking a bit more. She was still heavily congested and struggled breathing through her nose when she slept. But she was on the mend and better enough to go back to preschool on Tuesday. (Monday was a holiday but I still needed to go to work, since she was no longer feverish she went to daycare).

Looking and feeling better.

My little Valentine

Baby Bear was so excited to come home and check out all the Valentines that she got from all her friends at school and day care.

She also really loved the Valentines from mama bear and daddy: her magic wand. She insisted on sleeping with her wand.

Mama Bear was so fortunate to come home to a clean house and a dozen beautiful roses. Exactly what I needed after being sick for the last few days. I am so lucky. I love you hunny!!

A braid

Baby Bear's hair has been growing so long and this morning she actually sat still to let me braid her hair. It is has been forever since she has sat still long enough to let me do anything to her hair. I am lucky if I can just brush her hair every morning.

I hope she'll let me do this again...

Class Valentines

It was a good thing that I finished putting together Baby Bear's class Valentines last week. I got really sick yesterday and was glad that I didn't have to worry about them. I kept things simple and didn't want to do sweets for the kids, so I wrapped up some goldfish crackers in a nice little wrapper I made myself. Simple and easy.

Because I was sick and did nothing yesterday, I had to revert to plan B for the teachers' valentines so that I wouldn't be up all night baking. I had something else planned for them, but it was not going to work out. I needed to let myself recuperate from being sick. Not as planned, but yummy none-the-less.

Potty conversations

We are still working on the potty training. I know that she is ready, but she doesn't want to. I think she is just stubborn. Sigh.... We just keep working on it.

I know she is ready because we have days that are very promising, like yesterday. She went potty at school, at daycare, and at home before bath time. Because of that she got a big prize:

Aren't they adorable, I love them and want them for myself!!!

Then today, she did not go pee in the potty simply because she didn't really want to.
Mama Bear: Did you go potty at school?
Baby Bear: I don't go potty at school?
Mama Bear: Why not?
Baby Bear: I no go. sorry. I don't' want to.
A conversation during bath time:
Baby Bear: I go pee.
Mama Bear: oh no, you go pee in your bath?
Baby Bear: (smiles) next time I go potty in the potty. Sorry. Next time. I promise.
Thankfully, it was the end of the bath and so I just took her out. As a friend told me, at least she didn't go poop in the bath.

I guess when she really wants to go she will go. Hopefully I can convince her to go pee in the potty more regularly. She is definitely capable, she just needs to actually want to do it.

Super Bowl and Angelina Ballerina

We are not much of a football family. In fact, the only really football game we watch all year is the Super Bowl. Grandpa Bear put our name in a couple of football pool. That always makes it fun to watch the game.

My girl in her ballet leotard holding checking our football pool. Grandpa Bear won in the first quarter and at half time. Go Papa!!

Baby Bear watched the Super Bowl for a little while then wanted to watch Angelina Ballerina. Thank goodness for the iPad.

Shopping with mommy

Daddy had some studying to do over the weekend, so Baby Bear and I decided to go have a Mommy-Daughter day at Victoria Gardens. We had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen.

She enjoyed coloring before having some mac and cheese.

After lunch, we went to the fountain.

Then a little shopping. Baby Bear picked out a few new outfits! After a little shopping, we headed over to the playground. It was nice to have some Mammy-Daughter time and daddy had a nice and quiet house that he could study in.

Conversations with Baby Bear

I am constantly amazed by the things that come out of Baby Bear's mouth. Fortunately, no swear words have come out of her mouth (yet). We have some of the most interesting conversations. I love having conversations with her, she talks so articulately and she has so much to say. Every day she surprises me with how much she knows already. She is so verbal.

The other day, I picked her up from grandma's house. So on the way home we had this conversation:
Mama Bear: Did you take a nap at grandma's house today?
Baby Bear: no. I don't nap at grandma's
Mama Bear: Why not?
Baby Bear: I had too much playing to do.
How can you argue with that reasoning? She is just so cute.

Baby Bear love birthdays and is learning about months.
Baby Bear: My birthday is in June!
Mama Bear: Yes it is.
Baby Bear: When's your birthday.
Mama Bear: My birthday in February (yay!).
Baby Bear: Daddy's birthday is in March.
She is just so smart, she remembers the month her birthday is in. What amazes me most is that she remembers the month of daddy's birthday. She keeps asking about mine over and over again, but I think that might be because February is harder to say (and spell). But then again, if I ask her she knows what my birthday month is. I think she just likes to ask.

The other night on the way home from dinner, out of no where.
Baby Bear: Bamboo!!
Mama Bear: Bamboo?
Baby Bear: Panda's like to eat bamboo
Mama Bear: yes, they do.
Baby Bear: Bamboo!!!
I have no idea where that came from. I guess she really wanted to say the word bamboo. I know that we watched The Wonder Pets before bedtime stories and one episode had a panda stuck in a bamboo tree. She must have been thinking about that and wanted to talk about bamboo. She is just so funny sometimes.

Sometimes, she just has a lot to say. Gotta love that girl.

Tantrums

Toddlers are great, there is so much development and learning going on, that it is just amazing. Each day I think about how blessed I am to have such a wonderful daughter. She is so awesome and so stinking cute. I love her so much. But there are moments when it is so challenging and hard. Those are the moments with the tantrums. I know it is just a normal part of it all. At least, that is what I tell myself during those not so fun occurences. Sometimes Baby Bear gets so worked up that we don't even know why it is she is tantrumming.

Maybe I am an awful mom, but I find this video hilarious. We had no idea why she was so upset, so instead I decided to videotape the moment. Sometimes you just have to let go and laugh.

I guess I just pray for patience when these tantrums come about. She is learning and we are learning how to deal with it. All I know is that somehow we need to teach her that she can't always have her way and that we can't give in to the trantrums or it will get worse down the line. It is tough, but we are doing our best. The good news is that the wonderful and amazing moments happen ofter and totally outweigh those few challenging moments. I wouldn't trade being Baby Bear's mommy for anything in the world (even with the tantrums).
