The first Back to School Night

So daddy and I attended our first Back to School night. We learned about what Lil J was in store for and got to see some of her artwork that she has told us about. We really like her school and she has a well season teacher with 21 years of teaching experience, 15 of those in kindergarten. It is nice knowing she has a great teacher.

Lil J had told me about this project and made sure to tell me to look for it on the bulletin board. I love it.

I love her family picture. Why we only have one leg, I'm not quite sure. But I love that it is such a happy picture. I love that she is so happy.

It will be a good year. We are learning about all this along side Lil J. I love it.

Summer Reading

Since preschool is out and it is officially summer school, Grandma started Lil J on a summer reading program to get her ready for kindergarten. It sure helps to have a grandma who is a retired teacher. Grandma used to teach 1 st and 2nd grade and still has many of her resources. So she put together a little reading program for us to keep Lil J on the right track.

Day 1 and we have already begun to read our books and work on letters. It was all great timing since Lil J had her kindergarten pre-assessment today. I am sure she did well.

Kindergarten

It's time to register Lil J for kindergarten. It is crazy to think that in a few short months I will have a kindergartener. Yikes!!

This whole kindergarten thing has been anxiety provoking for us. Mainly me. We want Lil J to go to a school closer to my work so we have applied for an interdistrict transfer. We don't find out about that until June or July. So just in case, we made sure to register in our home district. We applied for an intradistrict transfer to another school in our district since we do not like the school that is considered our home school. We are notified of that in May. At least we covered all our basis and she will go somewhere. It's just a matter of where.

It has been so crazy doing all this on top of it being the busiest time of the semester at work. We've done our research and went to kindergarten open houses and had all the paperwork together. All applications are in.

So now we just wait. It is out of our hands. I know that Lil J will do just fine in whatever school she ultimately ends up going to. But we do want the best for her and value education very much. If we can at least give her the best school opportunity we can then hopefully that will pave the way to a positive future. Nothing can take the place of a good education; that is the foundation to becoming a meaningful member of society and being socially responsible. At the core of it all that is what we want for Lil J. Crossing all our fingers and praying.

First Day of Preschool (Year 3)

So Lil J started her 3rd year of preschool this year. She loves preschool and was so excited for the first day of school and the start of the year. In the last 2 years, she has grown so much and it is very exciting and bittersweet that this will be her last year at this school. We love The Children's School and will cherish our last year there.

Daddy and I brought her to her first day of school. She was very excited since we rarely drop her off together. It is usually just one of us. So to her this was a nice treat.

Holiday Gifts for Teachers

I had to start my holiday baking a little early so that I could get gifts out to Baby Bear's teachers and my students and co-workers. So last week, I baked 18 dozen cookies. This week, I have more to bake for her daycare family and some neighbors and friends. Of course, I also had a few along the way.

Some cookies before they were packaged for the teachers.

Each teacher also receive a Target gift coin with her cookies. I love these little gift coins, they look like little cookies and went perfectly with the cookies.

Baby Bear goes to school

Mondays are a Lola Bear day. Lola Bear just started bringing Baby Bear to a Mommy and Me class for 1 year olds. We call it school, so Baby Bear goes to school once a week. Last week was the first week and I walked with them to the class so that Lola Bear knew where to go and to make sure she was registered correctly. I had intended to stay through the entire class and walk home with them, but Lola Bear (aka my mommy) told me they were fine and I could leave to go to work. I was sad as I walked home by myself. Baby Bear was in a Mommy and Me class and I am the Mommy!! I know she is in good hands with my own mom and enjoying herself. I just wish I was enjoying the class with her.

The nice thing that consoled me was coming home to see Baby Bear's first school art work proudly displayed on our refrigerator. It is so cute and I am so proud.

Her first piece of art work from her first class last week. She colored an apple:

Baby Bear is very talented with such great lines. This week's project, she painted a yellow bus:

My baby girl is growing up, sigh. Can't wait to see what she brings home next Monday.
